Remarkably I awoke sober and sane today. It has been 17 yrs since I chose AA and the guidance of God to lead me down the road of sobriety. The last time I had taken a drink was sometime on the early morning hours of March 18, 1978. I came too on a small bathroom floor, pulled myself up and finanlly saw who I was. The reflection in the bathroom mirror was me, a falling down drunk. I thought of how often I had promised that I would not do it again only to realize in that moment I was powerless over alcohol and needed to have help if I were to stop. Upon awakening that day and until now God has blessed me with the Grace necessary to stay sober. My sobriety date with AA is the day I once again admitted that I needed help. It is not just about the drink, it is also about change. THe 12 steps.
